This presumes that you now or at some time in the past have occupied a cubicle for the better part of a work day. There seem to be several styles of cubicle occupation that reflect an individual’s personality and life philosophy:

Life is transitory – This desk and this job is temporary so I’m not going to bother unpacking the boxes or putting things in drawers.

I am in control – if I have more stuff than anybody else, all office moves will revolve around me.

I don’t like to share – so all my toys are at work so the kids won’t get into them.

I really like to share – mostly my fondness for cute kittens and puppies and children that may or may not be related

I love my cubicle and have made it every project from Eccentric Cubicle to show how much I care

I’ve lived enough and read enough self-help books to see the inspired wisdom in the song “You’ve Got to Put Down the Duckie (if you want to play the saxophone)” That’s so much easier to grasp than being told to let go of the past, stop stopping yourself etc. Which would you rather hear?

My all-time favorite life lesson in song is below – the doo wop tragic saga with the inarguable truth “stoplights and love can be cruel.” Don’t I know it. This stuff is wasted on four-year olds! Part of Sesame Street’s concept is to include bits that adults find interesting to get the parents interacting with their kids, but what about those of us without kids? Thank God for Youtube. Now adults can get their Sesame Street fix without having to wade through the letter of the day and other extraneous material meant for the target preschool audience.

Nurdle is an odd word that does exist in some dictionaries that aren’t pertinent to this site. (For those that are insatiably curious, nurdle is a term in cricket, the squiggle of toothpaste that is squeezed from the tube, and apparently a plastic extrusion pollutant.) Nurdle as it is used on Nurdle Net is a term best described in comparisons. It is anything or anyone that is neither mainstream nor avante garde but with a certain sort of something. It is most usually a verb, but also has adjective and adverb forms. It can be eccentric but not to the point of crazy although I admit that is extremely subjective.

Biplanes nurdle, but Learjets do not

The original Volkswagon Beetle nurdled, but station wagons and minivans do not and the Beetle remake is well, clearly an imitator

Tug boats nurdle

Daschunds and Corgis nurdle

Little old ladies with flames painted on their walkers are nurdly

Most of the Muppets qualify, especially Beeker

Nurdly things are nifty, quirky, and fun, but not cute to the point of a sugar rush. They are intriguing and thought provoking without being boringly academic. Nurdle Net is a place for those that understand and/or appreciate the difference and the goal of this site is to leave people smiling with delight and mentally heading off on creative tangents.
