Have you ever wondered what the aliens that make the crop circles do during the winter when there is blowing snow and no crops to disturb? I’m assuming you prefer the alien theory over drunken villagers but either will do as crop circles are most definitely seasonal.

Apparently they (who ever they are) roll giant snow balls which sounds almost as much fun although not quite as decorative, but give them time. I won’t be that surprised if they start showing up in artistic patterns. Although this article is quite dismissive of the crop circle connection you can see a picture and decide for yourself whether this is a freak of nature or the work of really bored extraterrestrials. I’m particularly fond of the statement ‘world’s most remote and frozen regions’ which apparently means the American mid-west.

It’s a Fargo-esque mystery up here in the Pacific Northwest – disembodied feet in running shoes washing up on the shores of British Columbia. Only one owner has been identified and there is no evidence of foul play so it has become something of an oddity – are they related or individual incidents? Why only in British Columbia? Surely boating accidents are pretty common in nature around the world.

Since I personally don’t trust these feet to adhere to the rules of the Border Patrol or recognize the 49nd parallel, there’s a certain amount of trepidation in planning a trip to a remote ocean beach in Washington State. And now, the week before Halloween a 7th foot has appeared, presumably meaning there is yet an 8th waiting to be discovered.

After about the third foot, I figured the made for TV movie would be out the week after the mystery was solved. But with no end of feet in sight, it appears that the National Geographic Channel just couldn’t wait – who could blame them? Next week “Mystery of the Disembodied Feet” airs on National Geographic Explorer Nov. 2, 2009 at 7 and 10 pm. They’re claiming 7 feet already but either they’re counting the one found at a construction site (not washed up) or the one that turned out to be a hoax (shoe filled with seaweed).
